How To Make 5 DIY Lip Balms in 5 minutes.

5 Lip Balms in 5 Minutes...

You won't believe how simple it is!

We are going to cheat a little here.

You ok with that?

Good, me too.

5 different lip balms in 5 minutes sounds tricky but we are going to cheat and use one simple base recipe, and customise each balm in its own pot. Perfect if you want to keep one and gift the others. Or...you like lining them up and sniffing them. No judgement!

Let's get straight into the first step, assembly.

You will need 5 small glass pots with lids, 4 tbsp shea or cocoa butter, 4 tbsp carrier oil, 4 tbsp beeswax or carnauba wax and your favourite essential oils.

I use shea AND cocoa butter, 2 tbsp of each.  You can use whichever you have, or combine them.

Line up your pots and figure out your essential oil blends, adding 4-5 drops straight into each pot. (Simple right, just remember to mix later!)

Inspiration:

  • Sweet orange & Peppermint
  • Vanilla & Rose Geranium
  • Lavender & Lemongrass
  • Manuka & Copaiba

Choose your carrier oil. Coconut, jojoba, olive, sweet almond, avocado...whichever nourishing oil you happen to have.

Pop the wax, butter and oil into a bowl over simmering water until just melted. Low heat...stir gently...don't walk off. This will only take a few minutes.

Remove it as soon as everything is liquid and let it cool slightly. You don't really need to but I don't like heating my essential oils so I make a coffee at this point and play Clash of Clans.

Use a pipette or a spoon to add an equal amount to each pot and STIR. Don't forget those essential oils are sitting in the bottom!

That's it. 5 deliciously edible lip balms in 5 minutes.

Would you like to get creative? Here are two more of my favourite homemade lip balms.

The Lip Plumper

Lip plumping formulas work by mildly irritating the skin, drawing blood to the surface and making it swell. Sounds a little harsh, but as long as you don't go overboard it's perfectly safe.

Start with your base recipe, and add 3 drops cinnamon essential oil and 1 drop clove essential oil. If you reduce the base recipe remember to reduce the essential oils too! This is a very diluted amount and I recommend beginning with it to check your sensitivity level.

Honey & Cocoa

1 tbsp cocoa butter, 1 tsp raw honey, 1 tsp beeswax, 1 tsp jojoba or coconut oil, 4 drops Manuka essential oil.

As before, gently melt the butter, wax and oil. Remove from the heat, cool slightly and stir in honey and manuka. Set in a pot and try not to lick it all off.

You can experiment with infused oils too. I add some coffee beans (lightly smashed) to a clean glass jar with jojoba oil and let it sit for a 1-2 weeks. Strain and use in lip balms, scrubs etc.

If you have an awesome flavor combo please comment below, I'd love to hear your favourites!
